Twelve companies responded to Bonham ISD’s advertisement for Construction Management At-Risk (CMAR) services. Proposals were received from: Adolfson & Peterson, BTC Company, Gallagher Construction, Harrison Walker & Harper, HGR General Contractor, J.T. Turner Incorp., Mart, Inc., Piazza Construction, Plyler Construction, Pogue Construction, Starling Richardson Const., and W.B. Kibler Construction.

The selection of a company to provide CMAR services will provide the board with current construction cost projections should a decision be made to call for a bond election for the purpose of additions and renovations to I.W. Evans Intermediate. Additionally, should a bond be approved by the community, these services will provide the district with ideas to save money during the design and planning phase. These services will not cost the district any fees unless the community passes a bond.

A copy of the proposals are available for the public to view at the BISD Administration Office. The board will hold a special meeting on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of reviewing and scoring the proposals. Following this procedure, the board will determine which firms to interview.

There will be no Bonham Freshman Girls Basketball games on Tuesday, January 31 against Commerce or Tuesday, February 7 vs Anna. Again, those games have been cancelled.

The election filing period for two Bonham school board seats will begin Saturday, February 4th, (The first day for filing falls on a Saturday, but since the first day to apply is not a deadline, the first day to apply does not move to the next business day and the office is not required to be open on Saturday.) and ends Monday, March 5, at 5:00 p.m. Anyone interested in running for Places 1 and 2 must file by 5:00 pm, March 5, 2012. Deadline for write-in candidates is March 5, 2012. Deadline for candidate to withdraw, Thursday, March 8, 2012, 5:00 p.m.

The election is May 12, with early voting from April 30 to May 8, 2012.

Monica Kissling represents Place 2. (3 year term)

To qualify, candidates must be at least 18 and have lived in Texas at least a year by May 12, 2012. They also must have resided within the Bonham Independent School District for at least six months by election day and be registered voters. The Lady Warriors Freshman basketball game scheduled for tonight (Jan. 13) in Commerce has been cancelled due to Commerce not having enough players to play a freshman game. All other games will take place as scheduled.

Dylan Haggard to donate his first book to the I W Evans Library
Dylan Haggard, 5th grade student at I W Evans Intermediate School has written a book about a character named Stick Guy. The title of the book is The Ultimate Story of Stick Guy. Dylan worked on his original masterpiece for six weeks, writing and illustrating it himself. After he completed the book, several of his classmates read it. Jose said, "It was really good!" Maria thought it was pretty funny. Allison and Dylan K. gave him a big two thumbs up on his first attempt. Dylan will be donating his book to the I W Evans Library to share with other students. Hopefully, this will be the first of many books Dylan will write!!

On Tuesday, January 17, 2012, Bonham ISD will officially name the gym at Bonham High School in honor of Coach Leonard A. Gerner in a ceremony that will be held in between the varsity girls and boys basketball games (approximately 7:15 p.m.). Coach Gerner served the students of BISD for 27 years between 1960 and 1987. Please join us on this special evening as we honor a wonderful man. A reception will be held in the BHS cafeteria following the dedication ceremony.
